Whether you are into Zelda or Mario; Star Wars or Star Trek; Wonder Woman or Bat Man, artist and photographer, Alex Reed, owner of Minako's Bead Art Studio, has something for all ages and interests. Reed has been making beautiful bead art for about four years and a photographer for many more. Princess Leia, Boba Fett, and Wonder Woman are just a few of the many portraits that Reed enjoys making and selling with the beads. "I'm a workaholic," Reed says. "When I'm not working at my art, I'm at my second job, Harbor Freight. My art is my main job." Reed says she uses her art to distract from her anxiety and depression. "These disorders actually make me more creative, " Reed says. She also gives credit to her mother, Kristy Reed, and her three aunts; Mary Ellen Reed, Betty Reed, and Janet Reed for her creativity. "When I was around eight years of age me and my mom shared a room and my three aunts shared a room just so they could have a spare room for ceramics and painting. My dad was also an artist," Reed says her photography is different from others because she is experimenting with unusual things such as levitation. As for bead work, Reed says no one is making movie posters, sports or local images such as Louisville and New Albany. "You don't see others making these types of things with beads, especially the portraits that I make, at least I haven't seen them.
