Humans of So IN
"I'm the membership instructor at the Clark County YMCA. I oversee the Outreach Program, the Kids Club Program and I'm also the Diversity and Inclusion Chair. I have a lot of moving pieces to my roll. I oversee about 45 staff. Each staff has a different day; every day. It's kinda like being mother hen to everyone, and I have four kids of my own and a husband, so my work/life balance is a huge struggle. Last year my youngest daughter, who is now 11, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and that flipped my world upside down. When you hear diabetes, you hear a death sentence. You don't really understand and then on top of it all, I have so much in my world at work to properly care for my child and not kill her. I want to provide for her, so she doesn't get sick or doesn't go into the hospital. That was really scary for me, but we've made it work. We did have a five-day stay a couple months ago, but we are still learning this whole diabetes process, and she's growing hormonally changing her diabetes numbers. It's scary, but we’re managing."
